15-712 Systems Final Report Methods for Recognizing Service Quiescence

چکیده
Our motivation for this project is evaluating our hypothesis that if we had a variety of statistics concerning process resource consumption, we would be able to determine whether and when a process is quiescent.1 We instrument the Linux operating system to allow us to gather relevant statistics, and write a second program, which we call QAnalyzer, that allows us to analyze these statistics, looking at variations in process resource consumption to determine whether and when a process is quicescent. Finally, to evaluate our hypothesis, we perform experiments in which we vary the behavior of the process under observation. Our results show both that we can determine when a process is not quiescent, and that certain classes of processes do post-processing when they would be expected to be quiescent.

Framework for quiescence management in support of reconfigurable multi-threaded component-based systems
In component-based software systems the basic building block is the component, and applications are built as component compositions. ‘Dynamic reconfiguration’ in such systems is defined as the ability to replace individual components at runtime, or to change the compositional topology by adding/removing components and/or changing the patterns of their interconnection. A ‘quiescence service’ sup...

Background Good decision-making requires gathering and using sufficient information. Several knowledge translation platforms have been introduced in Burkina Faso to support evidence-informed decision-making. One of these is the rapid response service for health. This platform aims to provide quick access for policy-makers in Burkina Faso to highquality research evidence about health systems. Th...

Biocloud: A Systemic Review and Classification
Nowadays, numerous journals have published papers related to biocloud – cloud computing techniques for biological applications (e.g., genome analysis, systems biology, infection disease), indicating many researchers’ interest. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to review the works that were published in journals from 2006 to 2013, suggest a classification framework of cloud computing techniqu...

Professor Naoki Ikegami’s “Fee-for-service payment – an evil practice that must be stamped out” summarizes many of the failings of alternatives to fee-for-service (FFS) payment systems. His article also offers several suggestions for improving FFS systems. However, even powerful arguments against many of the alternatives to FFS, does not make a convincing argument for FFS systems. In addition, ...
